Crabapple trees make beautiful flowering bonsai trees. The flowers and buds range in colors from white to a dark pink. The bonsai trees bear crabapple fruit about the size of a common pea. This tree trunk is stitched in a padded, raised stem stitch. The crabapples are pebble beads wrapped in Glory, topped with a petite bead and surrounded with cast-ons. The buds are two bullions snuggled in a satin wrap and a cast-on calyx. The flowers are made with 5-petal stumpwork pieces and floss and wire stamen clusters with beads, using techniques introduced by Loretta Holzberger. Ferns are added to the bottom of the tree trunk in Glory feather stitches. The pot features a needlelace center done in Point de Venice style and is surrounded with padded satin stitch and filled with assorted rocks (beads).
